Late rally not enough as Bullets lose to Otters 31-21

FAIRFAX - On Saturday, Nov. 1, the No. 4 BFA-Fairfax/Lamoille Union Bullets fell 31-21to the No. 5 Otter Valley Otters in the D3 football quarter-final despite a late-game rally.

FAIRFAX - The BFA-Fairfax/Lamoille Union Bullets' playoff hopes were dashed on Saturday, November 1st, as they succumbed to a 31-21 defeat against the Otter Valley Otters in a hard-fought Division 3 quarter-final matchup. Despite a valiant effort and a late-game surge, the No. 4 seeded Bullets couldn't overcome the No. 5 Otters, bringing their season to an end.

The game, played in front of a supportive home crowd in Fairfax, saw the Otters establish an early lead, putting the Bullets on the back foot. Otter Valley's strong running game proved difficult for the Bullets' defense to contain, allowing them to consistently move the chains and build a comfortable advantage throughout the first three quarters.

The Bullets, however, refused to go down without a fight. Trailing by a significant margin heading into the final quarter, they mounted a spirited comeback, showcasing the resilience and determination that had defined their season. The offense, led by their quarterback, started to find its rhythm, connecting on crucial passes and effectively running the ball.

The late rally saw the Bullets score two touchdowns in quick succession, narrowing the gap and injecting a renewed sense of hope into the home crowd. The momentum seemed to be shifting, and the possibility of a dramatic turnaround hung in the air.

Unfortunately for the Bullets, the Otters managed to weather the storm. They responded with a drive of their own, chewing up valuable clock time and ultimately sealing the victory with a late touchdown. While the Bullets fought until the very end, their comeback ultimately fell short.

The loss marks the end of a promising season for the BFA-Fairfax/Lamoille Union Bullets. While the defeat is undoubtedly disappointing, the team can hold their heads high, knowing they displayed tremendous heart and effort throughout the year, particularly in their never-say-die attitude during the final quarter of this crucial playoff game. The Otters, on the other hand, advance to the semi-finals, carrying their momentum forward after a well-earned victory.
