Doha – In a bid to promote sustainable agricultural practices and efficient water usage, the Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with Hassad Food Company, recently hosted a specialized training program focused on managing plant water requirements. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry’s Department of Agricultural Affairs and the Department of Agricultural Research, aimed to equip local farmers and agricultural professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize irrigation techniques and conserve precious water resources.
The training program, organized in partnership with Mahaseel, a subsidiary of Hassad Food Company dedicated to marketing and selling local produce, underscores the commitment of both organizations to supporting Qatar’s agricultural sector. With water scarcity being a significant challenge in the region, the program emphasized the importance of adopting modern irrigation methods and understanding the specific water needs of various crops.
Participants benefited from a comprehensive curriculum that covered a range of topics, including soil moisture monitoring, irrigation scheduling, and the selection of appropriate irrigation systems. Experts from the Ministry and Hassad Food shared practical insights and best practices, demonstrating how to effectively manage water resources while maximizing crop yields.
The collaborative effort between the Ministry of Municipality and Hassad Food Company reflects a broader national strategy to enhance food security and promote sustainable agricultural development. By providing farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to optimize water usage, the program contributes to a more resilient and environmentally responsible agricultural sector. The initiative not only benefits individual farmers but also strengthens the overall sustainability of Qatar's food production system. This investment in training highlights the dedication to fostering a future where agriculture thrives while minimizing its environmental impact.
